Intertidal & mangrove walks

The intertidal zone — the area left behind when the sea recedes to low tide — and Mangroves are rich ecosystems which are increasingly threatened by pollution, urbanization, and careless human interaction.

Small Change hosts walks to visit sea stars, algae, snails, hermit crabs, sea horses, barnacles and shorebirds; teaching participants about the complex and challenging habitat that is the intertidal zone, which boasts the highest biodiversity and productivity of the four oceanic zones. Mangroves, which are a valuable carbon sinks and provide a rich ecosystem, used to be a prevalent feature of coastlines across Singapore, but have become increasingly limited to conservation areas. All Small Change walks include an introduction to the Leave No Trace Outdoor Ethics guidelines, which provide guidelines on how we can minimize our impact while enjoying the wonders of nature.

Nature walks are an excellent team exercise. The demands of modern life leave little time to enjoy connection with the natural world and learning outside of the our field of work. Small Change intertidal and mangrove walks can be tailored to meet organisational needs — whether the experience is intended to be a treat for a hardworking team or an educational outing for students, our participants have a chance to engage with an incredible ecosystem right here in Singapore.
